So, education offices around the country demand HIV/AIDS tests from foreigners because we're deemed sexual miscreants with disordered sex lives. However, we're not the ones landing in the papers for paying for sex.
The blatant hypocrisy I see at times makes it hard to remember why I like Korea.

And we are not the ones who go to room salons, barber shop places, Turkish baths(10 years ago) which are called sports massage places, and what ever they call it in whatever form. But they think that if there is a problem then it came from overseas. I think it might be their nationalism/ideology left over from the past hundred years or so.The foreigners caused all the problems because they came and so did the problems.
ReplyDeleteI think it's human nature to try to shuffle the blame somewhere else. It saves you having to ask some hard questions about yourself (as an individual or as a society). And I guess it's emotionally and mentally satisifying on some level too.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty short-sighted though.
From last year, I got a new look at the society here. They are quick to say what is wrong but they do very little to say what should be done. They seem to say,"this is bad or not good enough" and expect someone else to make the perfect fix. If that fix is not right then the people are not content and complain. Easier to point a finger than come up with a solution. It seems that this society expects the government to come up with perfect solutions.
ReplyDeleteOr it seems that no one is willing to say anything that will help and hope the other person will make the miracle solution.
How do they ever get anything accomplished?
