I have a 2nd grader, Dae Sik, who's competing in a speaking contest soon and he wants me to break him of saying 'Englishee'. Initially he insisted it was pronounced 'Englishee' (hence the title) and that I, as a native English speaker, was talking out of my arse but he's since submitted to my will.
He can say 'English' OK on its own but when it's in a sentence, it's always 'Englishee'. And his speech has 2 instances where he has to say it, followed by "teacher' & 'and'. So, it's kinda cute seeing him wander around the school repeating the 'English teacher, English and/English teacher, English and' mantra over and over. {Update: He can say it properly now! He's obviously practiced a lot. I'm so proud of him!}
It was also kind of cute when, without missing a beat, he finishes his speech with "Thank you for listening. Lisa teacher, how old are you?"
